In this edited version of Roland Griffith’s very information talk on Psilocybin (original title “The science of psilocybin and its use to relieve suffering”) we take a look at the amazing positive effects achieved with this controversial substance.
Psilocybin the substance within Magic Mushrooms which causes people to “trip” and have various hallucinations, modified mood and sensations. At John Hopkin’s they have been conducting tests to see the effects of this. What they found was:
1) Almost all patients have very similar experiences in that they feel like they are one with everything, one with all people. So there is an incredibly enhanced sense of altruism. 80% of the volunteers reported the experience was among the 5 most personally meaningful experiences; 50% said it was THE most important experience. Overall mood and outlook on life was improved for at least a year.
2) Effects in terminally ill cancer patients – 92% felt their depression was alleviated for 5 weeks and 72% maintained for 6 months [completely unprecedented results]
3) Cigarette smokers – 6 months after the Psilocybin treatment they had 88% of the volunteers successful in quitting.
He digs into the topic very thoroughly, so please check out the full 16 minute video when you can
